This month, subscribers are drinking a beautiful coffee from the Gakenke District of Rwanda in their second Roaster's Choice Box of the year.
These coffee beans were produced at the Bumbogo washing station, located in the Gakenke District in northern Rwanda. This is a world-renowned coffee growing area which has produced many award-winning coffees.
This beautiful coffee has all the hallmarks of a traditional Rwandan - start with the citrus aroma of lemongrass, taste the rich and creamy flavour of mango and floral notes in the cup, and sweet brown sugar which lingers in the aftertaste.
Bumbogo’s growth has been phenomenal since it was set up in 2017 by two brothers, Gads and Karthick. In 2019 alone they doubled their production capacity by building new communal drying beds - now they work with 523 farming families from the region. Through close partnership with roasters like ourselves, they have been able to provide agricultural education and seedlings to their farmers, and are helping them generate higher yields and incomes.
