With 28 cinemas across the UK, Picturehouse has become a fixture of the art and culture scene. Offering much more than film and theatre screenings, Picturehouse cinemas are a place for locals to connect and enjoy great food and drink. We are thrilled to have Picturehouse as our newest partner and it’s a partnership close to home, quite literally. With the iconic Ritzy on our Brixton doorstep, and West Norwood Library & Picturehouse just seconds from our roastery, we’ve been long-time fans of their community-first approach to cinema. We caught up with the Picturehouse team to find out more about the cinemas and why they chose to use Volcano coffee.
Tell us about your business.
Picturehouse is home to 25 award-winning cinemas across the UK, from Edinburgh to Exeter. Nestled in the heart of their neighbourhoods, each of our cinemas is distinct, full of personality, and run by welcoming, attentive staff.
We don’t just screen excellent films, we provide places to eat, meet, and relax, and host a busy calendar of events for everyone to enjoy. Our impressive cafés, bars, and restaurants cater to all tastes, offering everything from coffees to cocktails, burgers to superfood salads, alongside a wide selection of beers and wines.
Why did you choose to work with Volcano?
We felt like Volcano was a great match for Picturehouse. Our team spend a lot of time in Brixton – home to our cinema, The Ritzy – and before it opened in the morning they’d head to Brixton Blend, where they’d get the best coffee they’d ever had! The baristas there are amazing, and introduced us to the team at Volcano. We spent a lot of time getting to know them, and we were so impressed with their ethos. They’re a B-Corp, their coffee is from independent farms, and they hand-roast it just down the road from us.
Which Volcano coffee do you serve and why?
When we sat down with the experts at Volcano, we told them all about the average Picturehouse-goer and what we know about their coffee preferences. They recommended their blend The Brixton - it was love at first sip. We agreed it was the best way forward – plus, needless to say, it’s named after an area of South London we hold very close to our hearts.
What is your most popular coffee order?
Usually it’s a flat white, but at the moment, our iced lattes are flying out!
