We're proud to fuel over 250 of the country's leading speciality coffee shops. Our Volcano Hot Spots series illuminates their expertise, their passion and their courage. This time, we bring you South London's Sweet Carolina.
About: Sweet Carolina
Just a short walk from West Norwood station is the independent café, Sweet Carolina serving great coffee, brunch and home-made cakes. As one of our closest customers (just a 5 min walk from our roastery in fact) we wanted to chat with the owner, Carolina to find out more about her café and experience using Volcano coffee.
Tell us about your business.
Sweet Carolina Kitchen and Bar was my first brick-and-mortar café. Before I started Sweet Carolina, I baked cakes from my home and sold them at markets around London. When the opportunity to buy a gorgeous shop in the best corner of West Norwood arose, I knew I had to do it – so I could spread my love for good food and great coffee to my local community, and that’s how, five years ago Sweet Carolina came to be.
Why did you choose to work with Volcano?
I knew Kurt (the founder of Volcano) from the West Norwood Feast festival, when he had first started serving amazing coffee from his ape cart. It was my favourite coffee then (and still is now) because of the quality and flavour so naturally, Volcano was my first choice when I opened the café.
The roastery is also literally a 5-minute walk from the café, so there is nothing more local than Volcano!
What Volcano coffee do you serve?
The Mount Blend and we love it! It's the perfect balanced coffee – a rich flavour with delicious hints of sweetness.
What is your favourite coffee order to make?
Our most popular order is a flat white or an iced latte when the sun is shining but my personal favourite to make is a hot latte.
