About: Polpo

After 15 years of service, Polpo has become a flagship for London’s food scene, bringing the authentic taste of Venice to London. As one of our most well-known customers, we wanted to chat with the owner, Richard to find out more about the cafés and why they chose to use Volcano coffee.

Tell us about your business.

Polpo has been serving Venetian style sharing plates to Londoners since 2009. Polpo started off as a stand alone restaurant in Soho before adding a site in Chelsea’s Duke of York Square. Taking inspiration from the traditional bàcaris of Venice, the menu comprises of cicheti (Venetian snacks) followed by larger dishes including pasta and pizzettes, all of which are designed to be shared between the whole table. Polpo uses traditional Italian cooking methods with a modern approach brought to life by a mixture of British and Italian ingredients. Our chefs create seasonal specials throughout the year taking advantage of the abundance of wonderful produce available which sit alongside the classics on the menu. 

Why did you choose to work with Volcano?

We sell a lot of coffee and I drink a lot of coffee. Aside from water it’s pretty much all I drink so it’s particularly important to me that the product is very good and that we make it, and serve it, well to our customers. I’m proud of the fact that we have a lot of customers who rave about the coffee we serve. Volcano’s coffee is second to none and the customer service is excellent. Why would I use anyone else?

Which Volcano coffee do you serve?

We use Firehouse Blend because it’s so versatile, it tastes great drunk black but also really comes to life with milk.

What is your favourite coffee to make?

I always enjoy making a classic flat white, my own drink of choice which I make in the restaurant and at home using Firehouse Blend.
