ROASTER’S CHOICE AUGUST 2025

HERMOSA HONEY, COSTA RICA

Origin: Costa Rica
Region: Santa Maria
Varietal: Caturra, Catuai
Process: Honey

We welcome our first Costa Rican coffee of the year. This coffee is sourced from a cooperative of smallholder farmers based in the small town of Santa Maria at the centre of the coffee-growing region of Tarrazu.

The cooperative was the first coffee processor in the world to be certified as carbon neutral, back in 2011. The majority of the farmland is also forest-protected, offering a haven for birdlife as well as wild boar.

This coffee is honey processed, meaning the cherries are de-pulped but allowed to dry without being washed. This method leaves the stick mucilage (fruit pulp) around the bean, giving the coffee an almost honey-like flavour, with good clarity and a medium body.
This month’s coffee has all the sweetness you’d expect, with a milk chocolate body and juicy peach and almond notes. You’ll enjoy a bright and complex coffee with a truly silky mouthfeel.

How long does the coffee last?

Typically, the coffee you’ll receive will have been roasted within 10 days. We recommend the coffee be consumed within 5 weeks (although it can still taste great after this).
What grind should I choose?

Typically, fine grind is for espresso machines however, for low pressure machines like SMEG, Dualit and the smaller Sage machines we recommend medium grind. All other brewing equipment like Cafetiere, Moka Pot, Aeropress, V60 are best with medium grind. Please get in touch if you are having issues with the grind.
What if I am not happy?

We always love to hear from you and consider feedback a gift whether it's good or bad. If you are missing an item or have received an incorrect or damaged item, please contact us immediately by emailing our team at orders@volcanocoffeeworks.com.As coffee is a perishable product, we're unable to take any returns once dispatched. However, we recommend trying a 200g bag on your first order and if you don't like it, you can return it via our can Taste Guarantee policy. We aim to respond to all emails within 24hr Mon-Fri. When will I get my order?

Our orders are sent via Royal Mail 48hrs or DHL. You have an option to select this at the checkout. Orders are despatched the next working day (or the same day with DHL Tracked orders placed before 12pm). Any subscription order is dispatched by Royal Mail 48hr.
