Join the team: Finance Manager

We're seeking a Finance Manager to join Volcano Coffee Works. 

Working alongside the Finance Director, the Finance Manager will maintain the day-to-day financial functions and oversight of the business.

Volcano Coffee Works is a multi-award winning independent coffee roastery based in Brixton, London. We operate under two brands: Volcano Coffee Works and Assembly.

Job Description

We are looking for someone to play a key role in the Finance team at Volcano Coffee Works. Working alongside the Finance Director, you will maintain the day-to-day financial functions and oversight of the business.

Your role will include delivery and management of:

  • Accounts Receivable including Credit Control
  • Accounts Payable
  • Setting up electronic payment runs to suppliers for approval
  • Banking and Bank Reconciliations
  • Maintenance of our Fixed Asset Register
  • Inventory management
  • Month End Reporting including accruals, prepayments, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, divisional P&L reporting
  • Management of PO generated by the team
  • Expenses Management
  • Payroll and HR administration
  • Streamlining the finance systems and processes
  • VAT returns and submissions
  • Managing and developing our Finance Assistant

Key Responsibilities

  • Form a close working relationship with the FD, leadership team
  • Be responsible for managing and reporting on cash flow on weekly basis, including a forward-looking forecast for the short-term and full year
  • Support the FD in managing Financial reporting to the Board
  • Work with FD to analyse profit centred reporting by channel
  • Play a key role in budgeting and planning processes
  • Support the FD and Management Team in the delivery of consistent HR Policies

Skills and Competencies



ACCA/ CIMA Fully Qualified Accountant.


Extensive experience producing management accounts with month end reporting responsibilities (accruals/ prepayments/ reconciliations)

Has worked closely on developing management account packs

Experience of cash management including forecasting, credit control and budgeting

Has modelled and implemented cash management systems

Experience with managing cost control systems

Has assisted with developing and implementing cost control systems

Experience of working with internal stakeholders to ensure cost and budgetary compliance


Experience in producing forecasts and budgets on a divisional P&L perspective

Producing different scenarios and presenting to stakeholders

Significant experience of operating day to day financial functions (ledgers, payroll, reconciliations etc) within an SME


Highly proficient with normal office and finance-based ICT tools including Excel and finance cloud-based accounting software Xero etc

Able to produce financial modelling using tools such as Excel

Oversight or managment of basic HR responsibilities and administrative responsibilities (Rates, Utilities)

  • Self-starter with willingness to assume responsibility and take charge
  • Be able to advise senior members where appropriate
  • Good time-management skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to present financial information in a way that is easily assimilated by non-financial staff
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment as a key player
  • Ability to easily adapt to changing priorities and demands
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Confident and focused approach to get the job completed
